Deconstructor of Fun

Grinding made fun

Grinding can't be fun? I mean who could enjoy doing the same level or game activity over and over again? Well, you can make it fun - just add few stars and incentivize players to reach out for them.

Grinding Deluxe - The Bike Baron

The way

Bike Baron

does it is simple yet amazing. They utilize the same 3 star system, which is basically the industry standard ever since

Angry Birds

. But what

Mountains Sheep

has done is they've added Joker levels, which are only unlocked when player reaches 3 stars in all of the previous levels.

How it should be done!

With the Joker levels player are rewarded for playing. And what better reward for playing is to give more unique content to play. Almost genius!

Almost g

enius?

Having spent good time with the game I have to say that even though the team has nailed the design on this feature, there's still room to monetize and/or viralize this feature.

monetization

A simple in-app purchase where player can buy a ghost driver, which shows how the level should be driven to get the desired 3 stars.

viralization

When I hit 3 stars it's definitely something worth sharing. And I'm not talking about a brag on my Facebook timeline. I'm talking about sending the video of my awesome performance so that my friends could see how it is done. And hell, I'de be interested in seeing how my friends get 3 stars on those Hard levels.

Would the in-app purchase of a ghost rider power up hinder the user experience or would it just create happy customers who have finally reached 3 star rating on all of their levels?
